Kalam's 10 commandments for India beyond 2020

Image
In our homage to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, here is a news story from 2012 that gives us our beloved ex-President's 10-point rule for the development of India. ******************************************** New Delhi, Dec 18 (IANS) Former President-turned best-selling writer A.P.J. Abdul Kalam unveiled a 10-point agenda for India beyond 2020 Tuesday as a nation where the rural and urban divide will be reduced to a thin line, distribution of wealth will be equitable and education and value system will not be denied to people. The 10 commandments included "a responsive and transparent government", "access to healthcare" and "sustainable growth". Outlining his vision of a shining India of the future at the Annual Penguin Lecture Series 2012, "Beyond 2020: Sustained Development Missions For the Nation", Kalam said "sustainable development of the nation was the essence of India beyond 2012". Three aspects were the key to e...

Earth-like planet Kepler 452b

Image
Astronomers hunting for another Earth have found what may be the closest match yet, a potentially rocky planet circling its star at the same distance as the Earth orbits the Sun, NASA said on Thursday. Not only is this planet squarely in the Goldilocks zone -- where life could exist because it is neither too hot nor too cold to support liquid water -- its star looks like an older cousin of our Sun, the US space agency said. That means the planet, which is 1,400 light-years away, could offer a glimpse into the Earth's apocalyptic future, scientists said. Known as Kepler 452b, the planet was detected by the US space agency's Kepler Space Telescope, which has been hunting for other worlds like ours since 2009. "Kepler 452b is orbiting a close cousin of our Sun, but one that is 1.5 billion years older," NASA said in a statement. Its star is four percent more massive than the Sun and 10 percent brighter. If the planet is rocky, and scientists believe ...

New plane set to fly from New York to London in 3 hours

Image
Meet the newly announced S-512 Supersonic Jet - set to become the world’s fastest airliner, capable of hitting a supersonic cruising speed of Mach 1.6 (1,963 km or 1,220 mph) and a maximum speed of Mach 1.8 (2,205 km/h or 1,370 mph). At least, that's what Spike Aerospace, the US-based aerospace engineering and design firm behind the concept, is claiming, and they’re ready to spend the $80 million or so it costs to make it happen. Faster and more exclusive than the SABRE engine that British aerospace firm Reaction Engines Limited says will take 300 passengers anywhere in the world in just 4 hours, the dual-engine S-512 Supersonic Jet is designed to ferry 18 passengers between London and New York City in just three hours - flying 724 km/h (450 mph) faster than any other civilian jet. The concept was first announced in 2013, and since then, the team has been working on making the design as safe, fast, and cost-effective as possible. "The past 18 months have resul...

future of light technology: Matrix OLED technology

Image
Are you having an acid flashback? No, you’ve just got a glance at Audi’s latest lighting technology. The company that pioneered the artful automotive application of LEDs has released a video from their R&D labs showing how they see the future of light technology: Matrix OLED technology. Nicknamed “The Swarm,” the taillights on this concept car look like an organized swarm of red, radioactive bees, with smaller swarms of red and white electro-bees comprising the turn-signals and brake-lights. The bad news: The United States DOT has a history of being scared new lighting tech - they don’t allow Audi’s latest LED tech as is - so don’t expect to see this on American roads anytime soon.

ID Fan and FD Fan Difference

ID is "Induced Draft" and FD is "Forced Draft."  In an induced draft system, the fan is at the exit end of the path of flow, and the system is under negative pressure - that is, the pressure in the flow area is below atmospheric, because the air is being drawn through the fan.  In a forced draft system the fan is at the entry end of the path of flow.  It operates at positive pressure because outside air is drawn into the fan and forced into the system. Some burners use a forced-draft system rather than an induced-draft system. The difference here is that the forced draft system pushes combustion air into the com-bustion chamber, all the way through the furnace, and out the vent. The induced-draft fan pulls things through the furnace and then pushes them out the vent. The advantage of the forced-draft fan is that the fan itself is not in the high temperature, acidic environment of the exhaust gases. The forced-draft fan only sees room air. It lives...
